For a start, you won’t be seeing door-to-door collections or tin rattlers at traffic lights – all coronavirus collateral damage.
But even though the tins won’t be rattling in person, they will be waved about online.
Good Friday Appeal executive director Anne Randall said a partnership with the CFA will allow people to donate to those in need.
“We are extremely grateful our dear friends at the CFA are taking the infamous purple GFA collection tin online and running a virtual tin shake,” Anne said.
“Echuca-Moama and district locals can also donate to help with the regional tally on virtualtinshake.com. From April 3, locals will be able to search for their town to donate.
“We are extremely grateful for any contributions Victorians are able to make right now.
“For those still looking for ways to support the appeal this year, you can donate online at goodfridayappeal.com.au at any time, or purchase a raffle ticket online with more than $190,000 worth of prizes and watch the Channel 7 program from 7pm on Good Friday and donate online.”
Ms Randall said the decision to take this year’s appeal online would ensure government restrictions were still being followed.
“Everyone is living through challenging and uncertain times,” she said.
“Like every organisation across the country, we are following government directions and practicing social distancing as much as possible.
“Above all else, the health and wellbeing of the community is our number one concern.
“Fortunately, the Good Friday Appeal receives tremendous community support and fundraising occurs throughout the year, so we know many communities have been fundraising already.”
Tickets for the appeal’s raffle can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/2020-good-friday-appeal-tickets-95541357773?aff=GFAWeb
The winner will receive a 2020 Mazda CX-9 GT AWD worth $72,430, while the second place prize is a Majestic Knight SLX Caravan worth $71,000.
Meanwhile the appeal’s charity house, built by Henley Homes, can’t be auctioned this year and it will be listed for sale instead.
