The Tocumwal Library turns 21 next week, and there’s a huge celebration planned.
The birthday party will be incorporated into the official opening of library renovations, at the library on Tuesday.
The library has doubled in floor size and the décor has received a boost, with the touch of red highlights on the floor and overhead lighting. The toilets and staff amenities have been relocated, and a small meeting room constructed.
Berrigan Shire Council director corporate services Matt Hansen said the new facilities have opened up plenty of opportunities for the library.
‘‘The building was constructed in 1988 so it’s one of the newest libraries, but unfortunately it had missed out on being upgraded like other libraries in our region, leaving it to be pretty outdated,’’ he said.
‘‘There’s now a dedicated small meeting room, a dedicated youth activity space, as well as a big screen TV so the library can host movie days. The children’s area has expanded and there’s also a bigger area for knitters.’’
