During the Jerilderie Hospital Auxiliary and MND Research Novelty Golf/Bowls Day annual fund raiser, Jordan Anthony, Tania Roe, Stuart Smith, David Barlow, Carmen Lawton and Ben Nash will be sliding into a freezing cold inflatable pool.
Hospital auxiliary president Joy Knight said the local personalities are all brave for being prepared to participate in the fundraiser.
‘‘Tania Roe is a diversion activity person at our hospital, Ben Nash works at the shire and coaches junior football, Jordan Anthony is employed at AGnVET Services, Stuart Smith runs the Jerilderie Tyre Service, Carmen Lawton works at St Joseph’s Jerilderie and David Barlow is a farmer and has coached football,’’ Mrs Knight said.
“All six are wonderful people willing to make a fool of themselves for a good cause.’’
The hospital auxiliary has successfully held the event for the last two years, with last year’s event raising $6000, allowing the hospital to purchase a dual person scooter for patients.
This year they are attempting to raise enough money to refurbish the hospital veranda.
Auxiliary president Joy Knight is hoping a lot of community involvement and activities will make the day enjoyable and rewarding for all who attend.
“We had lots of visiting golfers and a lot turn out to participate in the bowls last year and are hoping for the same turnout again,” she said.
“This year the golfers will have a 10am shotgun start spread throughout the golf course to encourage a more social and swift event.
“The sports club will run a barbecue at the club and the Lions club will do the same on the golf course.
“Although this was initially a hospital auxiliary event, it’s been incredible with the reception it has received with the community getting involved.
“So much so that it has turned into more of a community event.”
Along with fun fundraising activities going throughout the golf and bowls and into the evening, there is also Funky Faces there to offer fun face painting.
