Berrigan Shire Council will spend $1 million of the loan amount to progress its Railway Park redevelopment and Lewis Crescent Residential Development project.
The remaining $4 million will provide vital upgrades for the Barooga water treatment plant.
The Finley allocation will see the last lots of 14 sub-divided blocks improved and made ready for development, and improve the park’s stormwater drainage, open space irrigation works and improved pedestrian access to Finley town centre.
‘‘The funding is essential as an opportunity to expand railway park and create a potential 17 new homes,’’ Mayor Matthew Hannan said.
‘‘The project will increase the capacity of the town as well as encourage development opportunities for potential home owners.
‘‘The extension of the park will also give the chance for an improvement to the landscape and its features, which will create the needed space and light improvements to hold more of the towns social occasions.’’ Works at the Barooga water treatment plant will provide for residential expansion and improve water quality beyond 2021.
Council suggests the upgrades could service an additional 250 homes.
‘‘The water treatment plant is critical infrastructure within our planning projects,’’ Cr Hannan said.
‘‘Having this funding come through will allow Barooga to expand.’’
Director of corporate services Mat Hansen said the upgrades will also improve service reliability.
With the loan secures, Cr Hannan is hopeful work can start immediately.
‘‘It’s an important result for our town,’’ he said.
‘‘Now that we’ve had the loans come through, we'll be looking to start the works as soon as we can.
‘‘The Lewis Crescent project in particular will also give a boost to the local construction industry, keeping employment opportunities continuing through out community.’’
