The community is being invited to help name the soon-to-be-built Jerilderie Preschool early learning centre.
As the project moves closer to going to tender for construction, the preschool staff have come up with a way to enhance community ownership of the facility.
Community members are being asked to vote on the best of four name suggestions - Jerilderie Early Leaning Centre, Billabong Early Learning Centre, Billabong Children's Centre and Murrumbidgee Children's Centre - or propose others to be added to the poll.
Preschool director Rebekah Salter said community interest has already been quite strong.
“We've had a few suggestions which are really welcomed, but to date the most popular option in the Jerilderie Early Leaning Centre. It got 104 votes in the first two days.
“Polling is still open so make sure you cast your vote. We really want to hear as many creative suggestions as possible so get those brains working.
“We will collate all the names and the popular votes together and likely will have another poll later in the year with the final selection coming out of the that.
“We also have a separate in-house poll, for our families of those directly affiliated with the preschool, which will be combined with the public polling.”
The new facility will accommodate both a preschool program and long day care service, and will be built on the corner of Kennedy and Mahonga Sts in Jerilderie.
Construction will also include a new playground, on-site staff parking and new footpath access.
Grant funding of $1.2 million has already been secured for the project.
