The competition tests the skills of apprentices, trainees and students across Australia in a range of different job fields.
But it was the local who took home the trophy, and Brayden will now compete in the national challenge in an attempt to make it to the international competition next year.
The win came as a surprise to the 21-year-old, who only competed because his Tafe teacher encouraged him to enter.
“I’m really excited with the win, I was really not expecting it at all,” Brayden said.
“And on the day I really only finished everything by the skin of my teeth. I really just thought it would be fun to have a crack so to win was just great."
Baking has not always been on Brayden’s agenda but since landing an apprenticeship about a year ago, he has loved the satisfaction that it brings.
“I never really was into cooking or baking but I got offered an opportunity to start an apprenticeship and I took it,” he said.
“It is a really rewarding job, you get to be creative, and when you make something it is so satisfying."
He’s hoping to take that same level of enthusiasm and skill into the next stage of the competition.
And his tip for home bakers keen to get their next loaf just right?
“Respect the dough, and you’ll get the perfect loaf,” he said.
