There will be two games on the day — Sunday, January 19 — at Kyabram’s Northern Oval, hosted by the Kyabram Fire Brigade Cricket Club.
Local sporting legend Paul Newman is coaching one of the franchises — titled Hurley Hotel’s Hounds — which has been backed by the hotel’s publican, Brenton Sheppard.
Each franchise is allowed a captain and two marquee players to be included in their 15-player squads prior to the draft.
Newman has already selected his brother, ex Victorian second XI allrounder David Newman and Dandenong Premier League players in Tom Donnell and James Nanopoulos in his squad.
Three Kyabram Cricket Club players are among the nominations for the inaugural Goulburn Valley Big Bash League draft.
Skipper and gun bat Kyle Mueller, his talented brother Cade and bowling spearhead Jackson McLay have nominated for the draft along with promising young Kyabram Fire Brigade players such as Anthony De Pasquale while Jake Gascoyne and Scott Morris are also expected to be among the nominations.
Over 100 players have nominated for this Sunday’s draft to be held at Shepparton’s Sherbourne Hotel so there are going to be some disappointed players given the squads are limited to 15 players.
Nominations for the draft close tomorrow (November 28).
