But for many, Sunday will be a difficult day as COVID-19 restrictions means they won't be able to be with their loved ones.
Echuca grandmother and author Janelle Barker knows just how tough it will be for some.
“A lot of mothers won't get to see their children due to COVID-19, including mums in aged care homes, while some people do not have mothers,” she said.
“I work at Southern Cross Care in Moama and the residents there aren't allowed physical visits, so Mothers’ Day will be a day of solitude for them. They can do FaceTime calls but it's not the same.
“They asked me whether I would write a poem to combat the loneliness they're feeling. So I did and they loved it so much, it is being turned into a bookmark which will be given to family members.”
Her poem is titled Unconditional Love.
To those we miss during Covid-19,
A little letter to show you I care,
I have not forgotten you.
Do not despair, I cannot see you,
I know you are there,
This situation I know is rare.
I love you unconditional,
Soon we will have our miracle,
To touch, to speak, to hold you is all I want to do.
Our time will come, so don’t feel numb,
Our love is through and through when I see you.
You light up my soul
And that makes me feel whole.
Janelle has three children and a grandchild and will be celebrating Mothers’ Day with her youngest child, 12-year-old son Bodie.
“My other two are adults and live in Melbourne,” she said.
“Usually they come here and we celebrate with a barbecue or we have a family gathering at my Mum's in Hoppers Crossing but we can't do that this year, so we will be FaceTiming.”
Janelle wished all mums a happy Mothers’ Day.
“We all miss our loved ones, but this situation will end and we can be together again,” she said.
