Another burglary at Echuca Telstra

By Ivy Jensen

BURGLARS have struck Echuca’s Telstra Shop for the fifth time in less than two years.

An unknown offender broke into the Hare St shop about 11.30pm yesterday by throwing a piece of concrete through the sliding glass door.

Detective Senior Constable Stuart Poulton said two phones were stolen.

‘‘The value with the damage would be about $5000,’’ he said.

‘‘We will be looking at CCTV footage and will be making some inquiries with other businesses in the street to see if we can get more CCTV.

‘‘Crime scene officers from Bendigo are going to come up to take some photos but they’re tied up with an incident at Epsom so they’ll come after that.’’

The break-in at Village Epsom Shopping Centre saw two automatic glass doors smashed and two ATMs badly damaged — similar to a burglary at Moama Marketplace earlier this year.

The last time the Telstra Shop was broken into was February where three mobile phones were stolen.

Thousands of dollars’ in goods were also stolen from the shop over three months in 2017.

Det. Snr Constable Poulton is appealing to the public for information into the burglary.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious or has information can contact police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The Telstra Shop will be closed until the scene is cleared.
