United by these two passions, the three close friends were torn apart by a devastating intruder – breast cancer.
The insidious illness stole away both Audrey and Jenny too soon, a tragedy experienced by far too many Echuca-Moama locals.
Now, as a tribute to her friends and to raise money for Echuca Regional Health’s Cancer and Wellness Centre, Glenda will be holding an Open Garden and Wellness Day on Sunday, October 20.
Opening up her spacious property – a tranquil oasis tucked at the end of Anderson Rd – for the public to come relax and rejuvenate, all while fundraising for a good cause.
“Audrey and Jenny and I were involved in quadrille 25 years ago and we were all into gardens too. But then Audrey died 10 years ago and Jenny a year ago,” Glenda said.
“When Audrey died I thought, ‘I’ll open my garden as a bit of a tribute remembrance day for her’.
“And then I thought about Echuca's new cancer and wellness centre and thought I could do an open garden and wellness day to raise money.”
The day will include guided garden tours, yoga, tai chi, kombucha cocktails, bird watching and tree and dog hugging.
There will also be a guided meditative river walk on the 15-minute loop around Glenda’s beautiful property.
Locals are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and picnic lunches and relax on the lawn with friends, with live music by Braden Pullen from 11am and 2pm.
A coffee and food van will also keep people fed and watered throughout the day.
“The day is a tribute to all family and friends who have been touched by cancer,” Glenda said.
“Come and participate in the many activities planned for the day or just sit and relax with friends and family.”
The day will be on Sunday, October 20 at 188 Anderson Road, Echuca from 10am to 3pm.
Pre-purchased tickets are $20 per person, tickets at the gate are $25 per person and children under 18 years are free.
