But for Echuca’s Ian and Lynette Taylor, it’s quite the opposite.
For them, three-day delivery of the Riv to their doorstep each week just isn’t enough.
Which is why they’ve eagerly hopped on the digital bandwagon, signing up for the new online subscription as well.
Well, Lynette has – with Ian’s hearty support.
“Ian doesn’t even know how to open a computer,” she laughed.
“He likes the print, so with the paper and online deal, we can enjoy both.”
Paying $3 for 12 weeks, the Taylors get three papers delivered each week, plus full online access.
Lynette said the Riverine Herald website offered a treasure trove of news – both from Echuca-Moama and the wider region.
“With the subscription, I find I can enjoy lots of articles that aren’t in the paper,” she said.
“Especially what’s happening in surrounding communities like Kyabram and Rochester. So it’s not just Echuca, you get a wider overview.
“I’m the last person you’d expect to have a digital subscription, but once I looked into it and realised what was available through it, I was in.”
The deal is also perfect for ravenous newsreader Ian.
“The other day he came in and said, ‘there’s no paper today’,” Lynette said.
“I said, ‘that’s because it’s a Saturday, Ian’.”
The couple moved to Echuca 11 years ago, looking for a quieter alternative to booming Bendigo.
They had the Riverine Herald delivered to them even back then as they were looking for a house in the area.
“We’ve always been getting it on Wednesdays and Fridays, but it was a nuisance because we kept missing stuff from Mondays,” Lynette said.
“People would say, ‘did you see that photo in the Riv?’ and I’d have no idea.
“But now I can enjoy all the general news from both here and out of town.
“I’d highly recommend people give the subscription a go. I don’t think people consider enough all it can give you.”
