The long-awaited reopening of Warren St has finally arrived this Saturday after the replacement of flood relief bridges and the construction of two new roundabouts, with the road being partially open since the middle of this year.
The works are stage two of the four-stage Echuca Moama Bridge Project, a more than $300 million project to connect the twin towns with a second river crossing.
“Drivers in Echuca-Moama, as well as tourists and the significant heavy truck usage on the Cobb, Northern and Murray highways will have a smoother and safer journey with the reopening of the upgraded Warren Street this Saturday, marking an important step in what is currently the largest transport infrastructure project in Northern Victoria,” Victorian Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan said.
“The completion of this stage of the $323.7 million Echuca Moama Bridge Project has laid the groundwork for an asset that will meet future traffic demands and provide a reliable main link to the new bridge that will connect Echuca and Moama.”
“We thank the community for their patience while we upgraded 1.6 km of Warren St with four new flood relief bridges and created safer access for residents.”
The project has also delivered 1.93km of shared use path that has improved connections for the community by linking to the existing trail network.
There will be temporary street lighting in place at the new roundabout and nearby intersections until early 2020, when the permanent street lighting will be connected.
With stage two now complete, early work on stage three will be underway, with major works commencing early in 2020.
It is estimated that the project will provide direct employment for as many as 240 people during its construction.
Stage four is intersection upgrades to the Cobb Hwy, Meninya St and Perricoota Rd intersection.
With a contract recently awarded to Excell Gray Bruni on October 23, work is expected to start next month.
