The owner of Blossom and Beau created two designs of earrings to raise money for WIRES Wildlife Rescue after seeing Kenny the koala on their Instagram page.
But she never would have expected the response to her fundraiser would be so strong.
“We made an initial donation of $680 when people started asking if we were able to make more earrings,” she said.
“We went back in with a goal of making it to $1000.”
It would go far further than Emma could have imagined.
Blossom and Beau would in the end donate $1461 dollars to WIRES, a number she is still struggling to comprehend.
“I had no clue this would go as far as it did,” she said.
“We are so overwhelmed and incredibly grateful to everyone for supporting this cause. It's a small thing we were able to do and that means a lot to us.”
While Emma was proud of her own efforts, she said the outpouring of support for many causes across the country was key for the ongoing support of those suffering during the crisis.
“There's a quote that says we can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone. I think that's a really good way of looking at it,” she said.
“Across the country, even across the world, people are doing their bit to help in so many ways, really brings it home. In an incredibly sad and tough time, we are seeing the absolute best of what people can do. There is something positive in a very dark time.”
