THE Leitchville CFA captain is in disbelief after thieves robbed the fire station of almost $2000 worth of equipment during the midst of Australia's worst bushfire crisis.

Thieves smashed their way into the Leitchville fire station between January 8-10, fleeing with $1900 worth of portable radios and batteries.
“Here we have members from all brigades out fighting fires all over NSW and Victoria and people are targeting the fire brigade who only help the community,” Leitchville brigade captain Darren Jenkins said.
“I don't know what goes through people's minds to do this to a volunteer organisation. It's a different kettle of fish.”
Mr Jenkins said in his 15 years with the brigade, he had never encountered any problems.
“On Total Fire Ban days we leave the fire station open so it's ready for access and quick deployment. Now we'll have to change all that and update our security which will cost more money.
“We work hard for what we get and look after our gear and now we have to replace it.
“That's an extra expense for our local brigade which means we will have to fundraise. It's a vicious cycle.”
The crime squad from Swan Hill police examined the scene for forensic evidence and are appealing for information as part of their investigation.
