After applying for a grant through the Sweat vs Steam committee last year, the team at ERH will now be able to use the bikes and help their younger patients in ways they couldn't before.
“Before these bikes, we had two tiny little bikes for toddlers or if we wanted to work on the kids’ core strength we may have been able to get kids to bring their own bikes in,” ERH physiotherapist Kia Lonergan said.
Giant Bikes helped ERH purchase a trike for children and adults to use and two balance bikes to use with younger children.
“Now that we have the bikes, we can use them to work with kids and try to get them involved with healthy habits and help them reach their goal of just wanting to ride a bike.”
The Sweat vs Steam committee approved the grant because causes like these are something it believes in.
“We want to encourage the community to stay fit and healthy, and supporting projects like this helps us do that,” Sweat vs Steam volunteer Chris Lee said.
“We have so many community groups and organisations put in for these grants and we want to help if and where we can.”
The team at ERH couldn't thank Sweat vs Steam or Giant Bikes enough.
“These new bikes are going to have such a positive impact on so many kids, and now they will all have the opportunity to work with bikes,” Kia said.
“Hopefully now we'll be able to have a lot more bike riders around the community.”
