A QUICK thinking Nanneella farmer and his son have saved more than 200 hay bales from being scorched in an early morning fire today.

Up to 250 hay bales were destroyed in the blaze, which took hold about 1.50am.
Rochester and Tongala CFA units were called out to the Byrne Rd property where they found the duo saving part of their livelihood.
“We arrived to find between 200-250 round bales alight, the owner and his son had saved 200 more by pulling them out with a front end loader,” Rochester CFA first lieutenant Brett Kyne said.
Lieutenant Kyne said the circumstances surrounding the blaze do not appear to be suspicious however investigations are continuing.
There is no threat to the community and the fire will be continue to be monitored by the land owner and Rochester CFA.
