The Echuca Regional Health physiotherapist was never a fan of going for a run for the sake of running.
“I was always one of the people to say I wasn't a runner or I couldn't run,” she said.
“I was loved walking, but at the start of last year I just decided to do a bit of running.”
As she ran, her ability and confidence grew.
“I found, to my surprise, I enjoyed it and kept going,” she laughed.
“Over the course of a few weeks, I'd built myself up and when I was almost able to run 5km, I went along to the Echuca Moama Parkrun.”
Joining the team lead to her finishing her first 5km run and finding support along the way.
“I met so many lovely people there and that's where I found out about Johnno's Run,” she said.
Through her work at ERH, Lucy has always had a passion for helping people.
“Through being a physio, I've always worked with people with disabilities and it's important for me to help in any way I can,” she said.
Ever since joining the running community and Johnno's Run, she has found a place a group that feels like family.
“There really is a great sense of community there,” she said.
“You see a lot of local businesses getting involved and we all support each other to achieve not only our personal goals, but working towards something that's bigger than ourselves.
“We're raising money for something that's tangible and helpful in the local community, it's a nice combination.”
Until the big day, Lucy will be training her heart out for the cause.
“I'm currently doing about three runs a week as part of an online running group,” she said.
“We get sent out the sessions each week, but it's not quite the same as being able to run together in a group.”
