More than 100 locals are expected to jog, walk, or wheel their own mini marathons on their separate sides of the river this Sunday in an effort to support Echuca-Moama’s Community Living and Respite Services.
CLRS volunteer co-ordinator Elizabeth Rowsell said so far 104 singlets had been purchased.
Normally to participate in Johnno’s Run a team needs to commit to raising $250 for CLRS’s Opening Doors Projects and making the journey south to the iconic Run Melbourne race.
This year, however, CLRS waived the fundraising obligation once a State of Emergency was declared in March.
Now, the only cost to participate in the virtual Johnno’s Run is the $15 race singlet or the $50 hoodie.
All proceeds from the clothing sales goes back to the Opening Doors Projects, making the purchases the only fundraising avenue CLRS itself has maintained.
CLRS chief executive Leah Taaffe said all CLRS-run fundraising was suspended when COVID-19 restrictions were first put in place.
“While we have suspended CLRS-run fundraising activities and fundraising events because of restrictions, if people are still keen to fundraise or have ideas about how we can support each other to stay connected, please let us know,” Ms Taaffe said.
“This year our focus is on supporting us all to stay connected, but we really appreciate that people still may be keen to support the Opening Doors Projects through fundraising.”
The 2020 singlets began being distributed yesterday from Worklocker Echuca on Hare St.
