The report came before councillors as a project update which included the Echuca East Community Precinct, both developments made possible by the Victorian Government’s Community Infrastructure Loan Scheme.
Councillors confirmed the removal of all buildings at the Echuca East Recreation Reserve that were identified in the master plan from 2016, as well as confirm the elements of the Gunbower Lions Park upgrade.
Cr Leanne Pentreath then added the scope for a stage two for the Lions Park to include a boardwalk, pending the Gunbower Development Committee can fund the item.
“The original dream of the Gunbower community has been for people to come and enjoy the park. So if they can achieve it, good luck to them,” Cr Pentreath said.
Speaking to the item, Cr Leigh Wilson said it was an exciting update.
“These are two communities that have had long standing projects. Echuca East is a part of the community devoid of large, open space,” he said.
The Echuca East Community Precinct master plan has been approved with the detailed design including landscaping and the multi-purpose building design nearing completion.
The design has been developed in consultation with current and potential users.
“Construction of the multi purpose building and playground will be stage one of the two stage project,” Cr Adrian Weston said.
“The second stage will involve construction of dog areas and open space.”
Elements excluded from the loan funded project are the bike skills area and the Sutton Street car park. Funding for these remaining areas will need to be sourced via alternative means.
“This is an exciting project for Echuca East that will see a barren area converted to a play space that will improve the health and wellbeing of the local community,” Cr Weston said.
