CAMAPASPE Shire's native birds of Koyuga will soon be rivalling the high-profile Peregrine Falcon family’s nest in Melbourne’s CBD with the latest Koyuga Kanyapella Landcare initiative.
A $2200 Campaspe Shire grant, orchestrated by group members Karin Sutton, Joy Liersch and Allison McCallum, provided funds to buy materials and hire the cherry picker to erect 30 nesting boxes at the Koyuga Hall Arboretum and on Landcare members’ properties in the area.
“All the requisite materials organised by Graham Liersch were delivered to president Bob Whitford’s shed,” the group's Merrilyn Cardwell said.
“Rod Sutton soon had the prototype knocked up before it was smoko and scone time, thanks to Rhonda Whitford.”
Ms Cardwell said the boxes ranged in size from the smallest for the pardalotes to the largest for the owls.
“They were constructed and painted over the weekend in readiness for stage two of the project,” she said.
