But there's something even better about comforting others.
For the first time this year, Echuca Neighbourhood House (ENH) is looking for locals to bake for those who could do with a helping hand.
ENH is again running its Baking from the Heart event, asking baking enthusiasts to make their favourite treats for palliative care patients in need of some home support.
ENH manager Sarah Peake said the team at ENH was excited for the December 7 event.
“We haven't been able to run the event yet this year, so we want it to be our biggest and best,” she said.
“It's been a rough year for everyone, so we are looking forward to having an event which can spread a bit of joy.”
ENH is calling on volunteer bakers to bring their baked goods to the house between 8.45 am and 10 am, where the team will bundle them into parcels.
“From there, volunteers from the hospital will collect them and deliver them to the community,” Sarah said.
“This time of the year has always been a special time to be involved, Christmas is a special time of year so it means a lot to be able to run the event with our community to support people doing it tough.”
But while the baked goods are heading off to those in need, the event is also an opportunity for the public to get into the spirit after a rough 2020.
“People have gone through a lot this year,” Sarah said.
“So for people who want to put that behind them, to enjoy the last weeks of the year and share a bit of joy within their community, this is a fantastic event to get involved in.”
All bakers are requested to provide ENH with a basic list of ingredients they use in their treats and contact the house in advance of the event to check protocols around COVID-19.
