As a child, she would regularly visit the twin towns on holidays with her family, and developed a love for the region.
So when she received a care package while deployed to the UAE, few were as shocked as her when she saw where it had come from.
The care package had been made by the 1st Echuca Scout Group, and shipped by the Moama RSL to meet her overseas.
“Leading Seaman Zerafa made contact with the RSL last year to tell us she'd received the package,” Moama RSL president Ken Jones said.
"She joined the navy in 2010 and is currently based in Canberra. At the time she received the package, she was serving overseas and and was absolutely blown away by it."
After receiving the package, Leading Seaman Zerafa sent a message to the RSL.
"I just want to say a big thank you,” she said.
"I am a member of the Royal Australian Navy currently deployed in the UAE. I received your care package and just wanted to send my personal thanks.
"My family and I would always holiday in Echuca and visit the RSL so when I saw that it was from you guys it just made me miss home that little bit more.
"I will have to drop in when I get home."
On Sunday, Leading Seaman Zerafa will get that opportunity as she speaks to the commemorative service at the Moama Cenotaph about her experiences serving overseas.
"It's wonderful to have Leading Seaman Zerafa come in and speak,” Mr Jones said.
"Anzac Day is a special day to all servicemen and women, including those currently in the services.
"There are so many stories about those who have served their country in past conflicts, but to have someone who is an active member of the military come down and speak about the current life of someone serving is going to be an excellent opportunity.
"We are really looking forward to the event and to welcoming Leading Seaman Zerafa back to the area.”
