Located at Apex Park, the popular facility re-opened to the public on Friday, June 4.
“The council is excited to see this popular facility back in use, which is now double the size of the original park,” Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Tom O’Reilly said.
“The Cohuna Skate Park redevelopment is a local example of advocacy in action, thanks to the dedication of young people who campaigned for improvements to be undertaken.”
The redeveloped skate park incorporates the previous park’s features, with additional ramps, railings and riding areas catering for skateboarders, BMX riders and scooter users of all skill and age levels.
New features that complement the space include extra paths, open spaces, play areas and seating.
“For many young people, the Cohuna Skate Park represents a safe place to build positive social connections and feel involved in their community,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“The level of importance the skate park signifies to young people was demonstrated by the amount of input many locals have had into the layout and design process, with much of the creativity and passion for the re-development driven by the Gannawarra’s young people.
“The redevelopment was achieved thanks to a $250,000 grant from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Local Sport Infrastructure Fund, which the council is grateful for.”
