Christmas lights have become as common place as pillow cases under the tree and 10 cent pieces in the heart of the pudding — not sure if the latter is still allowed, but it used to be a exciting part of Christmas lunch.
And for Christmas 2021, thanks to our enthusiastic community relations manager Sarah Crossman, there will again be a financial incentive for anyone keen to put their name out their for consideration as their town’s best decorated home.
She has enlisted the support of the twin towns’ local government authorities and will be offering up $750 cash rewards for the home voted the best decorated in Moama and Echuca.
There will also be prizes for Kyabram — and its surrounding hamlets — and Rochester — including the likes of Lockington and Bamawm.
The Riv, in conjunction with the Campaspe Shire and Murray River Council, will this weekend begin the search for the region’s most imaginative Christmas light displays.
More than $2000 in prizemoney will be made available to those who annually bite the bullet and often have an associated surge in their power bill to present the wider community with some extra Christmas cheer.
For many years Illawarra Dve has set a cracking place, along with the likes of Warparilla Dve and many other streets too numerous to mention, but this year people will be able to nominate and vote on their favourite homes.
On The Riv’s facebook page you will be able to let us know of a house which has captured your attention, then we will allow people to like the corresponding address to their favourite household.
As usual Sarah will be using the nominations to formulate a map, which will allow people to plot a course for their perusal of the properties on a warm December evening.
Those maps will be published in The Riv on December 17 and 24.
The maps will also appear in the Campaspe Valley News on December 14 and 21, along with the Kyabram Free Press on December 15 and 22.
