Murray River Council determined it would adopt ‘Option A’ for the Moama Recreation Reserve Masterplan at Tuesday’s ordinary council meeting.
‘Option A’ — which does not include plans for an indoor sports stadium — was carried.
Cr Nikki Cohen said if people were shown the sports stadium they were “going to expect it”.
“No-one is saying that eventually we don’t need an indoor sports facility, but it’s just not in the right spot,” she said.
Council engaged CT Management in 2021 to undertake a review of the Moama, Barham, and Tooleybuc recreation reserves to determine the needs and demands on the reserves for the future from communities and stakeholders that use the facilities.
The Moama and Barham reserves had previous plans formulated in 2016 and 2008 respectively and both required updating to reflect past development and future needs.
