Echuca-Moama stops to remember

The twin towns paused to honour the fallen on Remembrance Day, with both the Echuca and Moama RSLs hosting services.

From 10.30am on Tuesday, November 11, community members were joined by Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell and Campaspe Shire Council staff and councillors at the Echuca District War Memorial Park.

Christ Church Anglican Echuca Rev Phil Zamagias opened with a sermon, which was followed by an opportunity to lay wreaths.

St Jospeh’s College Echuca 2026 school captains Rose Byrne, Jamisen Knight and Georgia Mahoney recited the poem In Flanders Fields, and students from Echuca College assisted in a flag raising ceremony.

The service finished with a performance of the Australian National Anthem by Sarah Mackenzie-Ross, who led the 100 or so attendees in song.

Across the river at 11am, the Moama RSL sub-branch began its service at the Moama Cenotaph.

Multiple people took to the lectern, with guest speaker Doug Baird sharing the story of his son and one of Australia’s most highly decorated soldiers, the late Corporal Cameron Baird.
