It was these efforts that led to Shepparton being recognised as a Top Tourism Town finalist as part of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council awards, and commended for showcasing the region’s unique tourism offerings, personality and deep cultural connections within the award submission.
The winners of Victoria’s Top Tourism Town Awards were announced, with Bendigo, Port Fairy and Mount Macedon taking the top honours for 2022.
Mayor Shane Sali said Greater Shepparton was a regional hub led by hardworking community members, who demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation and evolving the town’s tourism offerings and experiences.
“These awards celebrate the commitment of destinations right across Victoria and we congratulate those regions who achieved outstanding results,” Cr Sali said.
“In recent years we have endeavoured, as a community, to inspire more visitors to experience our authentic and distinctive region, through investment in our beautiful, accessible natural environments and by bringing people together through sport, food, music and art with our exciting events calendar.
“Key to this success has been the delivery of major developments in our CBD and contribution to major projects such as the Shepparton Art Museum building and the Museum of Vehicle Evolution.
“Recognition by VTIC and the state tourism community is an incredible achievement, and our local businesses should be incredibly proud.
“We have received excellent feedback from the awards industry judges, and with this, council will continue to collaborate with our local tourism industry to further enhance the region’s visitor experience.”
The Top Tourism Town awards were assessed around a four-day, three-night itinerary encouraging visitors to immerse themselves in the rich diversity of local culture.
