RFS Group Captain Dale Bowles was responding to a car fire on Perricoota Rd when he suffered a medical episode, about 5.40pm.
Fellow RFS members rendered first-aid on site until paramedics arrived, however Bowles tragically passed away.
RFS commissioner Rob Rogers confirmed Bowles’ death last night, issuing condolences and acknowledging the impact the incident will have on the wider community.
“Today, we mourn the devastating loss of another dedicated volunteer who, without hesitation, put himself on the front line to protect others,” Rogers said.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and firefighting colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
“We recognise the significant emotional toll a tragedy such as this has on our tight-knit RFS community and we will support his family and fellow brigade members in every way we can.”
An accomplished member of the RFS, Bowles first joined the Womboota Rural Fire Brigade in 2015, having already enjoyed an extensive career with the CFA.
Earlier this year, Bowles received a Commissioner’s Commendation for Service in recognition of his work in Western NSW throughout the challenging flood events of 2022.
He also received the Premier’s Bush Fire Citation in 2020 and the National Emergency Medal.
