Leadership and mentor program open for women in agriculture: Gepp

By Campaspe News

WOMEN across Victoria involved in agriculture or the agricultural supply chain looking to build their leadership and governance skills can apply for the 2021 Victorian Rural Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Program.

State Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp MP is encouraging women across Northern Victoria to apply for this year’s intake — with 14 funded leadership and mentoring places available, including The Observership Program and Williamson Leadership Program — commencing later this year and early in 2021.

“We are investing in the skills and experiences of Victorian women because we know that increasing the number of women in leadership positions is crucial to achieving gender equality and building a stronger Victoria,” he said.

The state government has provided $500,000 funding to the Victorian Rural Women’s Network to support the program, which has so far provided 24 rural women with professional leadership training.

The Leadership Program partners with four established leadership training providers delivering highly regarded programs suitable for emerging and experienced leaders.

Participants in the Leadership Program build expertise in areas such as how to effectively build teams, financial and business management, governance and networking.

The Observership Program offers the opportunity for emerging leaders to gain first-hand board experience by sitting as an ‘observer’ on a not-for-profit board.

“The program aims to empower and connect women in the agriculture sector and I strongly encourage women across Northern Victoria from all backgrounds, including First Nations women, those from culturally diverse backgrounds or people with a disability, to take the next step and apply,” Mr Gepp said.

The Leadership Program, alongside other initiatives including AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award and the Invisible Farmer Project, is part of the Victorian Government’s ongoing support for rural and regional women.

Applications for the Williamson Leadership Program close on September 30.

Applications for The Observership Program closes on August 16.
