With several pieces to the premiership puzzle departing the club, the pressure of keeping the title defence alive rests with a much younger side.
And already the team is learning valuable lessons just two games into the new season.
After brushing aside Echuca on opening weekend, Rochy came crashing back to earth on Saturday as they fell by just three wickets to the undefeated Moama.
Star batsman Dylan Cuttriss once again stole the show with a half century, but he was quick to praise the impact of his younger teammates in the match.
"I thought they handled the situation really well, even though we didn't come out on the right side of the result," Cuttriss said.
"A few of the boys had played a lot of B grade before this season so they are learning along the way and there is nothing wrong with that.
"We need to be getting as many games as possible into them so they do become better players.
"There will be bumps in the road ahead and we've just got to be prepared to accept them.
"We've got a big focus on development this year and our goal is for everyone to get the best out of themselves."
While Cooma, Kyabram Fire Brigade and Moama are the early pace setters with two wins, Cuttriss said the competition is very wide open.
"It can be difficult to get a read on other sides at this stage of the year," he said.
"We just need to focus on ourselves to make sure we're getting the right results because we don't want to fall into a chasing pack.
"I believe our best is good enough to challenge but it's going to come down to playing consistent cricket."
Rochester will welcome Tongala on Saturday.
