Ms Ryan said when it comes to stroke, timing is critical and recognising the signs of stroke could save a life.
“This year the Stroke Foundation is encouraging all Australians to become F.A.S.T. Heroes and recognise the common signs of stroke and call an ambulance,” she said.
“Stroke is always a medical emergency and the earlier treatment is delivered, the better the outcome for the patient.
“F.A.S.T. is the internationally recognised test to identify the signs of stroke and 80 per cent of strokes will show at least one of the FAST signs.”
Face – Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?
Arms – Can they lift both arms?
Speech – Is their speech slurred and do they understand you?
Time – Time is critical. If you see any of these symptoms act FAST and call 000.
