Nearly 25 per cent of people with anxiety disorders, affective disorders and substance use disorders also have another mental disorder, the channel reports.
However, Mental Health Foundation Australia is hoping to bring support to people affected by the dual diagnosis by hosting a forum in Shepparton on Tuesday.
Seven guest speakers will take to the Eastbank Centre stage to speak about the steadily growing issue.
Guests will have the opportunity to listen to a range of guests including Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp, City of Greater Shepparton mayor Kim O’Keeffe and professor Bruce Tonge.
Head of Psychological Medicine at Monash University prior to his retirement, Mr Tonge has a wealth of knowledge and advice for the community.
Mental Health Foundation Vice Chairman Vasan Srinivasan said he welcomed all residents from across the region to attend the forum.
“Twenty-one councils from across Victoria are hosting mental health forums of a similar nature which raise awareness about a range of mental health problems,” he said.
Mr Srinivasan said his foundation was also working towards establishing a support group in the region for people suffering a mental health condition alongside substance abuse.
The event will be held at the Eastbank Centre on Tuesday October 22 from 10am; guests are welcome to turn up on the day.
