Oddie fondly remembers the original Oarsome Foursome warbling, dancing and spoon feeding themselves with healthy Goulburn Valley fruit from SPC.
The commercials ran for more than a decade and the rowers became synonymous with the brand.
After more than a decade they were replaced by the fruit, with SPC deciding to instead make the peaches the hero.
Open to oarsome offers
In what shapes as a marketing bonanza Australia now has Oarsome Foursome times two with Alex Purnell, Spencer Turrin, Jack Hargeaves and Alex Hill winning gold in Tokyo and Lucy Stephan, Rosemary Popa, Jessica Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre winning gold as well in the first coxless four event for women at the Olympics.
Interviewed on Sunrise, the men were asked about offers to revive the Goulburn Valley Gold campaign.
“Not as yet, we’ll check our emails quite regularly and see what we get,” gold medallist Alex Purcell said.
“This time we have the men’s and women’s, we might have to do some kind of promotion together.”
Oddie knows the sacrifices to compete in the Olympics are financial as well as physical and who could begrudge our rowers making a buck from flogging fruit. Bring it on.
Eat fruit and find fitness
Oddie has spent a fair bit of time on the couch, so by the end of the Olympics, a fitness kick will be overdue.
Oddie has a plan that is just gold.
Lots of healthy SPC fruit and pop on the Oarsome Foursome fitness dvd which Oddie found in Ebay for $9.11 plus postage.
Drew Ginn, Nick Green, Mike McKay and James Tomkins have exercises for all fitness levels, from beginners and rowers, to professional athletes.
Apparently in six weeks Oddie can also have perfected the perfect stroke – handy for when the outboard motor goes caput on the Goulburn.
Anyone else have a slushy?
Oddie wobbled in reverse the other day and put a wheel on the edge of the nature strip and all the soil just squirted out in a gooey mess.
The flap of lawn was left suspended with the roots no longer connected to mother earth.
Oddie reckons we are saturated enough and could all do with a little sunshine and a firmer footing.
