Mathoura announce new coaching staff

MATHOURA isn't looking to make up the numbers in the Picola and District Netball League in 2020.

That's the message of newly appointed A grade coach Rita Howard.

After a disappointing 11th place finish in 2019, Howard is desperate to see her team rise up the ladder.

“Our ultimate goal is to be successful and plays finals,” Howard said.

“We're in a rebuilding phase at the moment but there is no reason to say we can't challenge the better teams in the competition.

“The club has lots of talented juniors in their ranks and we will aim to expose those players to senior netball at the earliest possible stage.

“After all, junior players are the future of our club. Without them, there would be no senior teams.”

Howard is dyed in the wool Mathoura, having played at the club for more than 20 years and is keen to see the Timbercutters rise up next season.

“I'm really looking forward to working alongside all the other coaches and bringing success to Mathoura.”

Jarrod Thomas, who has recently been appointed as the club's netball coordinator, said Howard's experience made her a standout candidate.

“We're really excited about what Rita is going to add to our netball program,” Thomas said.

“As a club we are in a rebuilding phase so having these experienced people in charge is only going to accelerate our development.

“We're expecting a lot of new faces at the club next year because we've had a lot of expressions of interest in the lead up to Christmas.

“To have all of our coaches organised prior to the New Year is something that hasn't been done in several years.”
