Held on the Labour Day weekend in Shepparton, locals made a up a large number of the 92 children representing the Southern Storm under the newly formed Southern Aboriginal sporting body.
With teams involved in age groups from under 10s to 18s, it was the under 12 boys who came out victorious.
Coach Des Morgan played a big role in ensuring the boys would come away with the win, after providing them with a cool head throughout the tournament.
The grand final was played on court one in front of a large crowd, who made plenty of noise throughout the game.
Going through their age division undefeated, they met the BRUS (Bairnsdale) team in the grand final.
Not overawed by the full capacity crowd and noise level, the young boys from both teams thrived off it.
Both teams continued to produce thrilling plays, that had everyone on the edge of their seats.
With these boys coming together for the first time, they played a good team brand of basketball, that parents and communities acknowledged.
Echuca Pirates under 12 representative, Munyarri Johnson was simply amazing, controlling the game from start to finish.
Johnson ran riot, using his athletic ability and height to his advantage.
This released the pressure from his teammates, some of whom were playing their first games, allowing them to make timely contributions for a great team victory.
Local boys Nakeah McConnell, Munyarri Johnson, Zayne Walsh-McGee, Des Morgan Jr and Houston Saunders were all outstanding, making significant contributions.
The Labour Day weekend was a successful one for the Storm who had nine teams in action.
We now look forward to the upcoming VACSAL football and netball carnival in September, where the Storm aims to engage approximately 120 children.
