Basketball Victoria announced on Tuesday that, in line with stage three restrictions across Victoria, the sport would remain suspended domestically until at least May 31.
It went on to state this date was regularly being reviewed in line with both state and federal government strategies.
Echuca Basketball Association president Phil Candy said the instruction to the players during the shutdown was a simple one — keep practising and maintaining your skills.
“We are occasionally sharing updates with the community,” he said.
“But at the moment we are in the same boat as anyone else in the country, waiting for a date when we can start up again. Until then, we just want our players to keep practising and finding their skills so that when we get back on court, we are ready to go.”
Candy said when basketball was given the all-clear to resume, the local scene would need a few weeks to be ready to go.
“We can easily form a competition within the parameters when we are given the word that we can go,” he said.
“It will give us the opportunity to get teams ready for tournaments as well. If we are given a few weeks to get it ready, I believe we can get the Echuca tournament ready as well.
“When that opportunity comes, it will be great. I think a lot of people out there would love the normality that would come with starting sport again.”
