THE weather was kind last Thursday and 13 NSW resident players enjoyed golf croquet doubles in lovely sunshine.
Winter woollies were shed as the day warmed up.
There was only one three-game winner.
Well done to Maureen Garden who has only been back playing for a few weeks following a wrist injury.
She was on fire, winning with a nett hoop score of +9.
There were five two-game winners including Alan Holding with +6 nett hoops, Ian Grant with +5, Dave Maher with +4 and Faye Zeally with +2.
Mae and Roy Vincent, long-time members and friends of Rich River Croquet Club, celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on the weekend.
The club offers its congratulations and best wishes on this special milestone.
Again beautiful blue skies on Tuesday morning made the weather ideal for croquet.
Thirteen golf croquet players played doubles.
Three people won all three of their games.
Ian Grant led the way with a nett hoop score of +10, followed by Maree Maher on +9 and Fiona Larcombe on +6.
Maree and James Gunn both scored hoops in one.
On Tuesday morning, a group of students and a teacher from Moama Anglican Grammar visited, and the club was delighted to be able to share their enthusiasm for the sport with the group.
And there was some very good croquet played too.
One lad laid himself flat on the ground to line up his shot about 3m from the hoop.
And it paid off — he won the hoop from there.
Another trying to get back into the action on hoop three hit his ball through the back of the hoop from around 20m away — nice shot.
The club is hoping to encourage school groups to play at Rich River once the restrictions are all lifted.
For the past three years, the Goulburn Valley Croquet Association has run an inter-school competition with great results and enthusiasm from schools in the region.
This year’s event was cancelled due to COVID-19 but the club would be delighted to have a couple of school groups compete under Rich River’s umbrella next year.
Members are reminded next Tuesday is the last Tuesday of the month, so the club will play kingball and head off to the golf club bistro for lunch.
