With the current COVID-19 stage 3 restrictions in place, there was only a small field of bowlers on the green last week.
Only two people per rink and ten people per green, all necessary conditions were enforced with social distancing, picking up your own bowls and staying healthy.
There were several types of disciplines involved during the hour of exercise and earnest bowling from all involved, ranging from bowl to the yardstick, spin the stubbie (no measuring) and the spider.
The final play was a quick game of three ends across the green as the bowler with the closest bowls moved to the right and the loser remained on the same rink.
After all bowlers had played each other, it was surprising to note that club president Ray Hanson finished on the same rink as he had started — his comment was ‘‘they all beat me’’.
The afternoon of bowls will be held each Wednesday during current conditions, starting at 2pm.
A Friday afternoon gathering will be held also at 2pm for anyone interested.
List names prior to 1.45pm.
This involvement keeps people in touch with each other and staying healthy in the meantime.
