Welcome back to all our Echuca Moama golf croquet members. We are now back on the courts playing again.
Everyone had a good Christmas and Happy New Year. We hope they started 2021 off well.
What good weather are we having and how lucky we are to be out playing games with friends and enjoying ourselves.
Our courts are in tip top shape and everyone is hitting the ball well.
We had 16 members come out to play on Monday.
Jenny Van Der Zande was the winner of three games with a net hoop score of plus one, while we had two people that won both their games and both having a net hoop score of plus two in Jan Tracy with John Alstin.
Well after a little health scare, jumping Johnnie Tarrant is back on track and made seven jump shots.
Sandra Alstin was the only person who got a hoop in one.
We had two visitors from Deniliquin in Mary and John James.
It was a pleasure to play with them and enjoy their company.
Just letting our members know that we will be starting to play early now. Our new time has changed to 8.30am for 9am start.
There was a social evening at Kyabram on Tuesday January 19 which ten members attended.
We have already seen a positive start to 2021, and since we didn’t have a good 2020 let’s hope this year stays positive.
Anyone wishing to learn how to play croquet come on down to the tennis and croquet club at Victoria Park Echuca.
We are a small club, but one which is very friendly cheerful and enjoy other people’s company.
It’s a great game with low impact on your body, and also a game that can be played by young or old.
Contact John Alstin 0418 505 614 and arrange a free lesson with mallets supplied.
All you need is flat soles shoes sun screen and a drink.
Rich River
Despite perfect weather for croquet last Thursday, we only had 14 members arrive for golf croquet, perhaps due to border closure problems.
Playing doubles, we had one three-game winner, Anne Dodd, who had a nett hoop score of +10.
Then we had seven two-game winners. The best of these was Alan Holding with five hoops.
Numbers were higher on Tuesday this week with 21 players, including four welcome visitors from Deniliquin.
Our courts are in good condition, and we blamed the gusty wind for the way the balls were running off line.
After playing three games of doubles each, we had four players on three wins.
The day's winner was Leo Barry from Deniliquin with 11 nett hoops, and runner up Russ Smyth was one hoop behind with 10.
Following were Leon Koch with six and Helen Brierley with four.
Next Tuesday is the last Tuesday of the month, so we will be playing Kingball followed by lunch in the Bistro.
And on Wednesday, January 27, Kenn Boal will be giving Association Croquet lessons at the courts starting at 8.30am.
All interested players are welcome, and places aren’t restricted to Rich River members only.
Please contact Russ Smyth on 0409 423 216 for details and to register your interest.
