The Wanderers had won each of the three previous encounters against the Border Raiders, a streak they extended to four with a 5-3 win at Rotary Park in Deniliquin.
It was a tight start to the encounter, with neither side able to find a breakthrough in the first 25 minutes.
But the Wanderers eventually did open the scoring, and when they did, the goals came thick and fast.
Martin Thomson netted Deni’s opener in the 27th minute, kick-starting a flurry of action before the end of the half.
Kaan Ozmen and Josh Perizzolo scored goals two and three for Deni, before Thompson’s second of the day made it 4-0 at the 40-minute mark.
The visiting Raiders pegged a goal back before half-time, with Milfred Oloifana scoring his first goal of the season.
But hopes of a Moama Echuca comeback took a hit early in the second half when Perizzolo’s second goal of the game restored Deni’s four-goal cushion.
The Border Raiders didn’t give up and they were rewarded for their efforts with two goals late in the half to trim the margin.
Luka Van De Zand scored his first goal of 2022, while Oloifana netted his second of the day to make it 5-3.
Having gone through their first four league games without scoring, the Raiders have now scored three goals in two of their past three games.
The Border Raiders have two wins in the League Cup this season, but they are still chasing their first victory in the league.
They will have one more chance to do so when they take on Shepparton Jaguars — a side they lost 4-3 to last time they played — in the regular season finale at 4pm on Saturday in Moama.
In other action, the Border Raiders’ senior women’s side played out a 1-1 draw against Castlemaine Goldfields FC in the penultimate round of the season at Jack Eddy Reserve.
Asha Davies opened the scoring for Moama Echuca with her 17th goal of the year, before Grace Shooter slotted one home for the visitors to have scores level at half-time.
The Border Raiders looked the better of the two sides in the second half, but they couldn’t find the crucial breakthrough and instead had to settle for a draw.
With one round left to play, the Raiders have already locked in their spot in the finals.
Sitting third on the ladder, the Raiders still have a chance of a top-two finish, but they will need help to get there.
They will need to win against bottom side Swan Hill this Sunday and hope Epsom can also snag an upset win over second-placed Kyneton District in order to move into second spot.
The senior women will play their final game of the year in Swan Hill at noon on Sunday, August 21.
