The Cats kicked five goals to one in the final term to snatch victory and win their 18th consecutive game, 12.14 (86) to 12.4 (76).
It was a see-sawing encounter, with LBU up by 10 points at quarter time.
But the Bulldogs fought back in the second and third terms, kicking 10 goals to five to hold a 16-point lead at three-quarter time.
With their winning streak under threat though the Cats responded brilliantly, outscoring North Bendigo 33 to seven in the last term to clinch a memorable victory.
Brodie Collins, Coby Cox, Ben Fulford and Thomas Leech each kicked two goals for the Cats, while Charlie Hinks, Thomas Leech, Joss Howlett and Tyler Phillips were four of the best players for LBU.
The Cats (6-0) sit in second spot on the ladder and are one of two remaining undefeated sides in the HDFL, alongside Colbinabbin (7-0).
The Hoppers extended their unbeaten start to the season with a 16-point win over Huntly on Saturday.
James Brain booted six goals for Colbinabbin to help his side claim a 12.14 (86) to 9.6 (60) win over the Hawks.
David Price was Colbo’s other multiple goalscorer with two majors, while Brain, Luke Moore, Hadleigh Sirett and Timothy Holobowski were some of the Hoppers’ best.
It may not have been the prettiest win for Colbo, but it sets up a blockbuster top-of-the-table clash this weekend.
The Hoppers and LBU will put their undefeated streaks on the line when they face off in Colbinabbin on Saturday, with the winner cementing their spot on top of the ladder.
Colbinabbin will be hoping for a much different result than the last time the two sides met, with the Cats thumping the Hoppers by 95 points last season.
Elsewhere in the Heathcote District League, Elmore picked up its first win of the season with a 36-point triumph over Leitchville Gunbower.
Darcy Laffy lead the way for the Bloods booting eight of his side’s 18 goals, as Elmore powered past the Bombers 18.13 (121) to 13.7 (85).
It was a strong performance from the Bloods, who led at every break, with a nine-goals-to-four third term setting up the win.
The drought-breaking victory will come as a relief to Elmore, which has been competitive this season but has fallen short of picking up that key win.
The result lifts Elmore into seventh on the ladder and ahead of the eighth-placed Bombers, with Huntly at the foot of the ladder.
