After a narrow two-goal escape against Finley, the Blues managed to hold fourth spot on the Murray Netball League A-grade ladder, and this week face a Tigers outfit coming off its first win of the season.
With the powerful Brock on Victorian Netball League duties again, young gun Meg Brennan looks set to once again take goal-shooting responsibilities.
Brennan set the court alight in her debut A-grade outing, playing a crucial role in the thrilling win over Finley last round after making the jump from the Blues under-17 side.
And when the game was there to be won, the young goal-shooter delivered, shooting a remarkable 100 per cent in the fourth quarter.
“It was an incredible debut really,” Tongala coach Paige Wade said.
“Obviously it was a really high-pressure game, and playing in goal shooter she absorbed a lot of it.
“Amazingly I think she had 36 of our 48 goals and shot at 100 per cent when it was goal-for-goal.”
With a chance to consolidate in the Murray Netball League top four, Tongala shapes up to a young Tigers outfit sitting in tenth place.
Cobram broke through for its maiden victory last round, a 17-goal win over Numurkah, but each side’s respective placings won’t be cause for complacency according to Wade.
“We’ll be going out there and taking them pretty seriously,” she said.
“They’re pretty young and they’ll be pretty excited to come up against us.
“We’ll have to be switched on and keep working on what we’ve been building in the last few weeks.”
Tongala and Cobram will face off at the Scott Oval courts on Saturday, May 28 from 1.30pm.
