The Timbercutters are coming off a pair of successive 150-plus point defeats, and the club looks set for another tough assignment this Saturday.
Following its 172-point loss to Katamatite in round eight, the Timbercutters make the trek out to Katunga to face the seventh-placed Swans, as they continue to battle injury.
Mathoura looks set to lose more personnel for the clash, including forward Zak McGregor with a knee injury sustained against the Tigers.
Despite a difficult run, Timbercutters coach Stan Gilday says it will be a case of short-term pain for long-term gain, as the club seeks its second win of the season.
“As I say, I can only ask the boys to keep doing what they’re doing and the improvement will come,” Gilday said.
“It’s just a case of plugging away.”
Mathoura notched its sole win against Yarroweyah in round five, and a match-up against the winless Blighty next week may provide an opportunity for the young Timbercutters’ brigade to test their mettle.
But for now, Mathoura will shape up against a Swans outfit looking for its fifth win of the season.
Similarly, Mathoura’s A-grade netball squad is looking for redemption of its own following a heavy defeat to Katamatite.
Rita Howard’s side is looking to rebound from a 50-goal loss to the Tigers, and will get its chance against the side directly above it on the ladder in the Swans.
The Timbercutters and Swans find themselves just one game outside the top eight, and the clash will provide an opportunity to break into the finals reckoning.
