After an early season stint in the AFL academy side, Kemp was a member of the Victoria Country side at the under 18 national carnival.
Playing in just about every position on the ground, Kemp kicked the winning goal just before the siren in his sides game against South Australia, being named to the carnival’s All-Australian team at full forward.
Disaster struck for Kemp not long after, when the young gun ruptured his ACL while playing for Geelong Grammar, throwing a spanner into the works of his draft year.
But it would not affect his stock, with Carlton grabbing Kemp with the 17th pick of the draft.
Meanwhile, Murphy added national honours to his growing cricket career in 2019, when he headed to Queensland as a member of Australia’s under 19 side in July.
By the end of the year, the cricketing prodigy was preparing to board a plane to South Africa for the under 19 World Cup.
Murphy also took his Victoria Country side to Western Australia as captain, with the team finishing as runners-up, and Murphy claiming 10 wickets.
Murphy was rewarded for his form in Premier Cricket for St Kilda when he was named to make his Victorian second XI debut.
He also captained the Ponting XI against the Gilchrist XI in an exhibition match on the Gold Coast.
Murphy was also a member of the National Performance Squad, taking part in a tour to India, where he was the sides leading wicket taker.
