Tat Chat | Merrigum Bowls Club

Last Tuesday our pennant team played Mooroopna Golf at Mooroopna, but could only manage to win on one rink.

Skipper Noreen Earl had Joe Chant, Gale Muston and Ken Phillips and had a good win.

Unfortunately I don’t have the cards, so I can’t give any more details.

Incidentally the local paper left out the division four and five results altogether.

Lee and Kerry both lowered their colours.

On a better note on Saturday our boys and one girl met Murchison and had a good win by 25 shots and 16 points to two.

Joe Chant, Wayne Shepherd, Maureen Shepherd and Carmen Quattrocchi played Bill Saunders and won by 27 shots.

After nine ends they led by 20 shots and for the first time in a long time we had good team effort. Well done.

Gary Mott, Jim Arthur, Ken Phillips and Barry McMeeken drew Wayne Brown and won by 18 shots.

It took them six ends to reach the lead by means of an excellent six-shot end.

From then on they were never really challenged.

It is a shame we can’t keep this winning rink together. A good effort.

Rob Dennis, Greg Pell, Neil Gardiner and Clive Baxter had a great struggle with Derek Anderson and won by two shots.

The ends were shared and after end 17 the scores were level as was the case at the end of the 23rd end.

To Merrigum’s credit it was able to grab two singles on the last two ends to gain this narrow victory.

This rink has been together for quite a while and is now becoming the rink we can rely on to have a chance at winning.

Glen Denham played A. Thompson and lost by 22 shots.

The selectors will probably have to look at this combination because as individuals they are much better bowlers than the scores indicate.

On Tuesday night we are hosting a visit by the Lions and the staff of Hinchliffe and Greed.

Our caravan trip to Myrtleford is on March 18 to 21 and we return home on the Sunday.

The cost for a site is $32 a night.

Our next pokie trip is to Mulwala Ski Club on Sunday, February 16.

The bus leaves Kyabram at 9 am and Merrigum at 9.15 am.

Cost is still only $5 for the trip, the meal, morning tea and the free raffle on the way home.
