Mulwala Water Ski Club
“It’s great to be back again!” Mulwala Water Ski Club Chief Executive Officer Peter Duncan said on Monday.
“We opened from 10.00am to 10.00pm and the weekend will be to midnight,” the CEO said.
“The two restaurants are open, the coffee shop is open, the deck is open – all facilities are open. Our accommodation is booked out for this weekend.”
Mr Duncan praised club staff. “The staff are rapt to be back working,” he said. “During our enforced closure, staff came in voluntarily to do some little jobs – jobs that were not priority ones. They were fantastic.
“The re-opening is good for everybody. It’s good for the town.”
ClubMulwala
CubMulwala re-opened its doors on Monday, with star Australian international cricketer Merv Hughes among those welcoming members back.
A popular identity with Yarrawonga Mulwala, Merv personally greeted patrons on Monday, together with club staff, President Des O’Meara ESM OAM and club CEO Allan Rowe.
Mr O’Meara said it was great to be back. “Under limited operations we will endeavor to keep members and guests as comfortable as possible to enjoy themselves,” he said.
“It’s extremely exciting to be back,” Mr Rowe, a close friend of Merv Hughes, said. “It’s been a long time coming – ten weeks is a long time in our game. We just want everybody to do the right thing observing COVID-19 restrictions.
“Staff are very pleased to be back and we’re very proud of our new Memorabilia Room upstairs.”
The Oriental Pearl Restaurant is open, the Diggers Restaurant is open and Essenza Spa Resort is taking bookings. Club opening hours are 10.00am to 10.00pm Sunday to Thursday, and 10.00am to midnight Friday and Saturday.
“It’s great to have this great club back open,” Merv, also a keen angler, told the Yarrawonga Chronicle. “I had a browse through the major upgrade of ClubMulwala just before it was officially opened in December.
“It is fantastic. The carpet upstairs is great. That cod on the carpet – I’d like to hook one of those in! Members should be well pleased with the revamped club.”
Merv also complimented management on the latest area to be upgraded – the Memorabilia Room. “To honour our returned servicemen and women with all that’s in the room is excellent, enlightening and informative. Although it can’t tell the conflict, it does give you a feel for what they went through,” the staunch AFL Western Bulldogs supporter said.
Merv, 58, represented Australia in 53 Test matches from 1985 to 1994, claiming 212 wickets. The right arm fast bowler was a crowd favourite and could bat, never failing as a night watchman.
