Turban Angels sewing their magic

By Yarrawonga Chronicle

The amazing ladies of the Yarrawonga Turban Angels have been assisting cancer patients in the region and far beyond for years and have now turned their hand to assisting the community in the current crisis, making and selling face masks.

The Yarrawonga Lions Clubs Turban Angels Made With Love Free chemotherapy Turban Project have been busy sewing three layer, 100% cotton face masks, that can be washed and reused as a fundraiser for postage to enable the group to continue sending free headwear to those going through Cancer treatment.
Turban Angels founder and larrikin Deb Van Corler and her wonderful team of ladies are currently sewing like crazy to raise these dollars whilst also assisting the local community in our current fight.

“I’m currently buried in masks, I seriously have rocks in my head,” Deb said.

“We are selling them to raise funds for postage for our Turbans.

“I have been advertising them on Facebook with the amazing Coral Van Dyk and within the first 45 minutes about 117 masks were ordered.

“It has been busy with orders coming from Melbourne and now Queensland, to be posted out.

“We opened the Lion’s Clubrooms last Wednesday with safe distancing and sanitation for collection of orders and general sales and were absolutely swamped.”

Last Wednesday saw a great number of people turn out to the clubrooms to purchase masks, which will assist the community and wider region in a number of facets with both the coronavirus and those the Turban Angels help going through cancer treatment.

“Apart from what was ordered, we had extra masks for sale and I have to say, they look real schmick,” Deb said.

“We do not do embroidered ones, what we have is what we have, Covid is not overly concerned about your fabric choices.
“They are classy and well made and we make sure sanitiser has been used on hands whilst sewing them as well as being individually packaged.

“We will endeavour to fulfill your orders ASAP with locals to take priority naturally.
“We’d like to thank everyone for your support and patience. If we run out, we’re sewing more.”

If you require a fabric washable Turban Angel mask email Deb at [email protected] or message her Facebook page.

The Turban Angels are also always after materials for their turbans as well as to make the covid- face masks. If you would like to donate money or materials for either the turbans or masks contact Deb or Yarrawonga Lions Club to assist; much like a very generous lady in Yackandandah who donated an amazing amount of money.

“It’s been proven there are some truly amazing generous people still in this crazy tumultuous world of ours,” Deb said.
“The beautiful, generous Lynda Shortis from Yackandandah donated an amazing sum of $932.50 to our project to purchase post bags to send turbans out to the oncology units.
“I was gobsmacked. We thank Lynda from the bottom of our bobbin cases. I always reckoned she was a great chick, now I know this to be true. You’re the tops.”

From the community of Yarrawonga/ Mulwala and surrounds, you and your wonderful group of Turban Angels are the tops too Deb.
