Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy has confirmed the NSW Government’s easing of border region restrictions will now allow boating on the Murray River for Victorian residents with a permit in the border zone.
Mr McCurdy had contacted NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Deputy Premier John Barilaro regarding the matter.
“I am pleased the NSW Government has listened to our call regarding boating restrictions and have now relaxed the rules,” Mr McCurdy said.
“You can now go boating on the Murray provided you have a border permit.
“Everyone in the boat requires a permit and if there is anyone in the boat from outside your household, they need to be 1.5 metres socially distanced.”
Mr McCurdy said he would like other regional Victorians to be able to access the Murray River for boating.
“I will now be encouraging the NSW Government to allow other regional people who come to the Murray River to be able to go boating,” he said.
“By allowing other regional residents who can holiday here access to the river, will help our accommodation and tourist sector.
“And in time, when Melbourne residents can reduce the Covid outbreaks, we will then be in a position to welcome them back to the Murray River as well.”
