Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club has finished on top of the WDCA ladder after a brilliant maiden century by Brock McCabe against Ovens Valley United.

McCabe’s innings comprised of 10 boundaries, seven threes, 14 twos and 24 singles. The century was scored off 215 balls with the entire innings of 113 coming from 226 balls.
In a family moment McCabe’s brother Matt was at the wicket when Brock brought up his hundred and parents Darren and Julie and younger brother Josh were all in attendance at the ground.
What made the innings special was that McCabe came to the crease with the Yarrawonga Mulwala team in trouble at 5 for 32 chasing 79 to win.
The match winning partnership was shared between the two not out overnight batsmen in Brock McCabe and Matt Casey who guided the YMCC past the victory total before Casey fell for a captain’s knock 50 runs including opening and finishing his innings with towering sixes and the score was 6 for 91.
Kyle Archibald scored 9 in a 22-run partnership with McCabe; then Angus McMillan came to the crease and proceeded with McCabe to bludgeon the Ovens Valley attack in 107 run partnership.
McMillan was the next wicket to fall and the YMCC were 8 for 220. McMillan was also able to bring up his maiden A Grade half century with 55 runs including with five boundaries.
With a small number of overs left in the days play, Matt McCabe scored 8 runs and Brock McCabe was the final wicket to fall and the YMCC were all out for 260 with James Irvine not out on 4.
The victory ensured the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club finished on top of the home and away ladder and will now play a home Semi Final at Stan Hargreaves Oval in Yarrawonga.
Ironically, the YMCC will play Ovens Valley again this Saturday and Sunday for a place in the WDCA 2021/2021 Geoff Welch Two Day Grand Final.
A Reserve
The Yarrawonga Mulwala A Reserve have sealed the top of the ladder with a 150-run victory against Ovens Valley United in the final round of WDCA action.
Played at Lonsdale Reserve in Mulwala, the YMCC made 6 for 292 last week and were able to constrict OVUCC to 7 for 142 from their allotted overs.
Mitch Collins Bye took 3 for 23, Bailey Frauenfelder had 2 for 22 off 17 overs, Brendan Hill 1 for 12 and Lach Phillips 1 for 14.
A great highlight of the game was the Bartlett Family comprising 4 members of the team in the field.
With brothers, Brady, Jacob and Rory regular members of the team, they were joined on field by their father Brett in a special moment for the family and also the club.
With finals commencing this Saturday and Sunday, Yarrawonga Mulwala A Reserve will host their final against Wangaratta Magpies at Lonsdale Reserve in Mulwala for a place in the Grand Final the following weekend.
B Grade
The final game of the home and away season saw the B Grade Lakers head to Barr Reserve in Wangaratta to take on fourth placed City Colts; City Colts winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Youngsters Harry Barker and Ben Kennedy opened the bowling for the Lakers and bowled good lines beating the bat regularly, especially Barker.
The pressure created by these two young men allowed fellow youngster Jett Peters to take the first wicket and bowling in tandem with Cooper Bennett, Colts went from 0/24 to 3/35.
