Fast courts and terrific croquet

By Yarrawonga Chronicle

What a brilliant week on course at the YMGCR for croquet. Blessed with a taste of spring weather, the courts ran superbly and the local members played excellent croquet.

Across the week the Yarrawonga Mulwala Croquet Club welcomed another SHC school group of 14 students on Tuesday afternoon.

The club also had visitors from the Mornington club, John Sherlock and Tony Docherty who played on Tuesday morning and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing setting and high quality courts.

On Friday, the YMCC welcomed first time player Donna Spring who showed amazing skill making three hoops on her first try out. Well done Donna.

Results: Tuesday August 13: What an incredible finish was seen on Tuesday, a three-way tie for the winners. Congratulations to Laurelle Spring, Cheryl O’Dwyer and Tim Redfern who made 16 hoops each.

All 16 players totally enjoyed the mornings play and with such tight competition, the pressure was on. A wonderful session and excellent opportunity for all players to test their skills.

Results: Thursday August 15:  6 players took part in the singles play competition, the third session in the trial of this format, with a very close finish again. Showing very consistent play all season Cheryl O’Dwyer and Nancy Brooks tie as runners-up on 14 hoops and Tim Redfern as the winner on 16 hoops for the session.

At the General Meeting on August 27 the members will be discussing the outcomes of this singles play trial, so a reminder to members this meeting will be at 12noon in the club rooms following the mornings play.

What a contrast to the previous week, with the weather on Friday and Saturday being magnificent for play.

With 14 players Friday and 13 on Saturday, the courts again were running fast and everyone had a truly enjoyable time.

Thanks to so many people helping out at the club at present, supporting the Committee, visitors and the student groups.

A shout out this week to Val Yendle who provided amazing guidance to the new starter Donna on Saturday, thanks so much Val.

Final call for agenda items for the next General Meeting please, remember also the new rule books are still available for $5 at the club.

Save The Date: The Christmas Luncheon date is Tuesday December 3 at YMGCR, following morning play. Details available closer to the time, plan your costumes and mark the date in your calendars.
